13-MAR-26 : The 2025 summer season has now come to an end, so we will have no more Monarch Caterpillars until Spring this year. However, pre-order your kit/s anytime and we’ll email you once your new kit is ready.

PURCHASING ::
At Mountain Butterflies we provide butterfly kits and everything you’ll need to raise your own Monarch Butterflies. Simply select your preferred kit or kits from the PRODUCTS page and process your order. We will then email you with an estimate on when your caterpillar is ready for shipment.
DELIVERY PERIODS ::
Mountain Butterflies is located in the Yarra Ranges Victoria. Butterflies generally are very seasonal (thriving in Spring and Summer), so therefore our breeding and delivery period is usually between September to April. We will email you once your caterpillars are ready.
HELFPFUL TIPS ::
Caterpillar Food:
Caterpillars only eat Milkweed. We provide you with an ample amount of milkweed to feed your caterpillar until it is ready to move into its chrysalis stage.
Conditions/Temperature: Both caterpillars and butterflies do well in mild-warm conditions. This is why we recommend keeping your new friend indoors, in temperatures within 20-35 degrees.
Butterfly Food:
Butterflies actually eat the nectar from floral plants, like Buddleja, Wattles, Lavendar etc. Bunnings actually has most plants, and stocks a butterfly flower mix which is perfect for growing the right plants for feeding your butterfly. If you don’t have these plants, getting a saucer or dish with warm water and sugar (1 part sugar and 4 parts water) and stirring it thoroughly, is another option to feed your butterfly.
Playful:
Letting your butterfly out is important for their wellbeing, the fun of seeing your butterfly getting its exercise is a pleasure.
Setting Free:
We welcome setting your butterfly free, and if you’re local to the Yarra Ranges please reach out to us so that we can keep the population of Monarch Butterflies flourishing as we have all the right facility, food and goodies for them.
TERMS & CONDITIONS ::
As you can understand, we sadly cannot guarantee that all caterpillars will make the transition into butterflies, and although we only ship the healthiest caterpillars, life and mother-nature has its own plans and agenda. Therefore, unfortunately there are no refunds on purchases in this case, you can however purchase more caterpillars, and we do recommend purchasing a few caterpillars just to ensure a high probability of achieving a successful butterfly emerging.
